The Institute of Professional Development (“IoPD”) operates a professional recognition framework designed to support and promote high-quality learning, development and professional education. Through its recognition services, IoPD provides independent review and approval of learning programmes, endorsement of professional events, and Approved Delivery Centre status for organisations that demonstrate a commitment to quality standards and continuous improvement.
These Terms and Conditions govern all applications, approvals, endorsements, certifications and recognition services provided by IoPD. By submitting an application, purchasing a service, accepting recognition status, or using any IoPD approval mark, logo or badge, the applicant organisation agrees to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
Recognition awarded by IoPD is intended to provide independent professional validation against published standards and frameworks. It does not constitute academic accreditation, regulatory approval, professional licensing, government endorsement or any guarantee of commercial success.
2. IoPD Recognition Framework
IoPD operates a structured recognition framework under which organisations, programmes and events may be independently assessed against relevant professional development and quality assurance standards.
Recognition may be granted in the form of:
- IoPD Approved Programme status;
- IoPD Endorsed Event status; or
- Approved Delivery Centre status.
Each category of recognition serves a distinct purpose and carries its own requirements, obligations and limitations. Recognition is granted solely in relation to the activity, programme or organisational status that has been reviewed and approved by IoPD and must not be interpreted as blanket approval of an organisation’s wider operations, products or services.
All recognition decisions are made at the discretion of IoPD following review against the applicable framework and supporting evidence submitted by the applicant.
3. Approved Delivery Centre Status
Approved Delivery Centre status recognises organisations that have demonstrated a commitment to quality delivery, professional standards and continuous improvement in the provision of learning and development services.
Approved Delivery Centre status is awarded for a defined period of twelve months unless otherwise specified in writing by IoPD. The award is not perpetual and must be renewed through the applicable review and renewal process.
Upon approval, the organisation will receive an official Approval Letter confirming its status together with a digital Approved Delivery Centre badge. Each badge will contain the relevant approval period, including the date from which the approval becomes effective and the date on which the approval expires.
The approval badge serves as evidence of current Approved Delivery Centre status and may only be used during the validity period stated on the badge. Once the approval period has expired, or where approval is suspended, withdrawn or terminated, all rights to use the badge immediately cease unless a renewed approval period has been formally granted by IoPD.
Approved Delivery Centre status confirms that the organisation has met the requirements of the IoPD framework at the time of assessment. It should not be interpreted as approval of every programme, event or service delivered by the organisation unless those activities have been separately reviewed and approved by IoPD.
4. Approved Programmes
IoPD Approved status may be awarded to courses, learning programmes, workshops, qualifications preparation programmes, professional development pathways and other structured learning interventions that demonstrate alignment with the applicable IoPD standards and quality criteria.
Approval applies only to the specific programme reviewed by IoPD and is limited to the version, structure, duration, learning outcomes and delivery methodology assessed during the approval process. Any material changes to an approved programme may require further review and may invalidate the existing approval if not disclosed to IoPD.
Successful applicants will receive a formal Approval Letter confirming the programme title, approval reference number, approval period and any approved CPD hours associated with the programme.
The approval of a programme does not constitute approval of the provider’s wider training portfolio, nor does it imply that other programmes delivered by the organisation have been reviewed by IoPD.
5. Delegate Certification
Where a programme has been awarded IoPD Approved status, delegates who successfully complete the programme may be eligible to receive an IoPD certificate.
Certificates are issued as evidence that a participant has attended or completed an approved learning activity and that the programme held valid IoPD recognition at the time of delivery. Certificates may be issued directly by IoPD or through an approved certification arrangement with the provider.
The provider remains responsible for maintaining accurate attendance and completion records and for ensuring that only eligible participants are submitted for certification.
An IoPD certificate should not be interpreted as a professional licence, regulated qualification, academic award or guarantee of professional competence. It serves solely as evidence of participation in an approved professional development activity.
6. Use of IoPD Logos, Badges and Recognition Marks
The IoPD name, logo, badges, certification marks, digital credentials and all associated brand assets remain the exclusive intellectual property of the Institute of Professional Development.
Organisations granted recognition status receive a limited, non-exclusive and revocable licence to use the relevant IoPD marks for the duration of the approval period. This licence is granted solely for the purpose of promoting the approved programme, endorsed event or Approved Delivery Centre status and may not be transferred, sublicensed or assigned to any third party.
All IoPD logos and badges must be used exactly as supplied. They may not be modified, recoloured, distorted, recreated, animated or combined with other marks in a manner that could mislead stakeholders regarding the nature or extent of IoPD recognition.
Approved Delivery Centre badges must always display the approval validity dates issued by IoPD. The removal or alteration of approval dates is strictly prohibited.
Organisations must not make statements that imply wider approval, endorsement or accreditation than has actually been granted. In particular, organisations must not suggest that IoPD has approved their entire business, endorsed all of their services, or granted any form of government, regulatory or academic accreditation unless expressly authorised in writing.
7. Monitoring and Quality Assurance
To maintain the integrity and credibility of its recognition framework, IoPD reserves the right to undertake quality assurance and compliance activities throughout the approval period.
Such activities may include the review of websites, marketing materials, participant feedback, programme documentation, attendance records and other evidence relevant to the approved activity.
IoPD may also conduct audits, request updated information or require organisations to demonstrate continued compliance with the standards under which recognition was granted.
Organisations are expected to cooperate fully with all reasonable quality assurance requests. Failure to do so may result in suspension, withdrawal or non-renewal of recognition.
8. Suspension and Withdrawal of Recognition
IoPD reserves the right to suspend or withdraw any approval, endorsement, certification arrangement or Approved Delivery Centre status where it reasonably believes that the integrity of the recognition framework has been compromised.
This may include circumstances where misleading claims are made, recognition marks are misused, quality standards are no longer maintained, material changes have not been disclosed, fees remain unpaid, or continued recognition may damage the reputation of IoPD.
Where recognition is suspended or withdrawn, the organisation must immediately cease making claims regarding the relevant recognition status and remove all associated IoPD branding from digital and printed materials within the timeframe specified by IoPD.
9. Limitation of Liability
IoPD provides an independent review, recognition and quality assurance service. While every effort is made to operate a robust and credible framework, IoPD does not guarantee commercial success, participant outcomes, regulatory acceptance, funding eligibility or business performance arising from any approval or endorsement.
Recognition confirms only that an activity or organisation met the applicable standards at the time of assessment. It should not be relied upon as a guarantee of quality, fitness for purpose or future performance.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, IoPD shall not be liable for any indirect, consequential or commercial losses arising from the use of its services, recognition decisions or certification arrangements.
This style feels much closer to organisations such as CIPD, CPD Certification Service, ILM, City & Guilds, CMI and professional institutes. It reads as an authoritative framework rather than a checklist of rules and creates significantly greater perceived value around the IoPD brand.
10. Data Protection
10.1 Each party shall comply with applicable data protection law, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. The parties acknowledge that, depending on the service model, IoPD may act as a processor for participant data submitted purely for certificate administration on the Client’s documented instructions, and/or as an independent controller for its own records noted within clause 10.3.
10.2 The Client warrants that it has a lawful basis to collect and share participant data with IoPD and that it has provided all required privacy information to those individuals.
10.3 The Institute of Professional Development (“IoPD”) reserves the right to retain attendee details and contact event attendees following attendance at any event, training course, conference, webinar or related activity for purposes including, but not limited to:
- Obtaining feedback regarding the event and services provided;
- Conducting quality assurance, compliance reviews and audits;
- Verifying attendance and participation;
- Evaluating and improving products and services;
- Providing information regarding future events, training courses, services and other marketing communications were permitted by applicable data protection legislation.
IoPD may retain attendee contact details and related attendance records for auditing, compliance, business administration and marketing purposes in accordance with its Privacy Policy and applicable data protection laws. Attendees may opt out of marketing communications at any time.
